Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between margin and markup?
Margin is the percentage of the selling price that is profit (revenue minus cost, divided by revenue). Markup is the percentage added to the cost to get the selling price (revenue minus cost, divided by cost). A 50% markup equals a 33% margin.
Should I price above or below competitors?
It depends on your brand positioning. Premium brands price above competitors and justify it with superior quality, service, or experience. Value brands price below to capture market share. Neither is inherently better — it depends on your strategy.
How do I know if my pricing is right?
Test it. Monitor conversion rates, customer feedback, and profitability. If you are selling out instantly, you are probably priced too low. If nobody is buying, you may be priced too high or not communicating enough value.
